I WAS SO MAD

I. Blogger won't let me post pictures. So I am unable to post the blog I really wanted to write. I am SO mad!

II. This is the totally lame response I got back from Best Western regarding my horrible hotel stay in Tucson (see adventure IV): (The gist of it is since the hotel manager won't bother responding to your concerns he gets a pass and we'll put your letter in the round file.) I am SO mad!

Hello Ms. R,

Thank you again for your e-mail concerning your stay at the Best Western
Executive Inn. I apologize our office has not received a response to
your comments from the management team.

I would like to assure you that Best Western members are required to
uphold the guidelines of service and accommodations as set forth by our
Board of Directors. To ensure that these guidelines are being met in
accordance with Best Western policies, quality assurance reviews are
conducted for each Best Western member property on a regular basis. The
observations, concerns and experiences of guests are a vital part of
this process and are carefully considered. Your correspondence will be
retained in the Customer Service files for inclusion in the next quality
assurance review of this hotel.

You are a valued guest and your business is very important to Best
Western members. Since customer satisfaction is the primary goal of Best
Western members, guest comments are greatly appreciated. Again, thank
you for taking the time to bring this matter to our attention.

Sincerely,

Mr. T
Customer Care
Best Western International

Here is my response:

Dear American Public,

If ever find yourself in Tucson, absolutely do NOT stay at the Best Western Executive Inn on 333 W. Drachman St.

Unless you are a drug dealer or a pervert.

Or you do not at all mind strangers having complete access to your hotel rooms in the middle of the night because staff has not bothered to secure the hotel building or to fix the broken sliding glass doors into your rooms.

Or you have a penchant for sleeping in and/or showering in other people's dirt.

Sincerely,

An extremely dissatisfied customer

(Lest you think I was overreacting and that requesting an escort to my room at 3am on a Sunday morning and then later locking myself inside my vehicle every time some questionable car drove up to the hotel was a little paranoid, please read this review. The irony of the fact that I carefully solicited directions to a pharmacy that might be more safe well after midnight on a Saturday night and then drove directly to a hotel in a bad part of town is not lost on me. My review of the hotel, in which I state, "I wouldn't keep my dog there," is pending approval.)

III. OK, so there is not really any three. Yes, there are MANY things that frustrate me or which I find extremely sick and wrong, but I try not to waste my energy on anger unless it's going to be productive. However, I really want to know...

What makes you SO mad?

Trying to use my Skymiles with Delta....let's just say it took ME finding the filght online (instead of the one they wanted me to take--fly to JFK, take a TAXI to Newark with my 3 kids and all our luggage, fly to Atlanta, then finally fly to Arkansas....a total of 13 hours of travel), a website that kept crashing, 9 phone calls, 4.5 hours on the phone, 2 trips to the airport, and several customer service reps in India who didn't speak English well enough to answer any questions that weren't on their screens and failed to give me confirmation numbers. Grrrrrrr!!!!!

hhmmm....delayed anonymity is not an option...so I'll re-comment:

A well known healthcare corporation/monopoly and its sister insurance coverage company (which changes its name so as to trick the community into believing they are not related). The fact that this very wealthy corporation creates more 6 figure positions on the already top heavy half while cheating the hands-on caretakers at the bedside.....so, soooo mad!
Thanks for the opportunity to put it here....maybe I won't get "dooced".

People.

Also, Cingular.

I have to laugh at azucar's comment - my husband would put "people" too. In fact, anytime we go out it's "I HATE PEOPLE - THEY CAN'T Drive" (or walk).

Me... so many things make me SO mad... it's amazing I don't have high blood pressure. Mostly meddlers, insincerity, dishonesty, beauracracy... I guess it all deals with people so... ditto - PEOPLE.

If I'm operating on very little sleep...Beware of Bitch.

Oh... You should get your boys to do some video about Best Western and post it on YouTube - HA - that'll show the inactive customer "service".

i'd have to say that when i was trying to get approved for health insurance and they were giving me the beauracracy run around. that made me pretty darn mad!

and if this situation came up i would be really mad:

there is no ice cream in the world and i am really really craving it!

Yeah, stuff like B's get me, Enron, stuff like that.
Today I was working with an 8 year old, talking about how anger means something, using anger can be good, that sort of thing. Hissy fits aren't terribly helpful to anybody.
There was a company I worked for in Portland that I thought was unethical and later found out they were doing illegal things, too.
What made me mad was the way management systematically fired people who tried to fix the sick system. I was angry because I was stuck. I knew I wanted out, but also needed a paycheck, and was scrambling to find a job (like everyone else who wanted out). I could go on and on. But I think that situation is something that all these years later (10 years) when I start thinking about it, and how awful it was for patients and therapists alike, it still can get me pretty agitated.

Hi cabesh--I've missed you--welcome!

becks and b.--I know exactly what you mean. And becks: wait till you actually try to make claims. But if the world were ever out of ice cream and you were really craving some I would make some just for you. Is this announcement?

azĂșcar and queen--I had a really good friend who always used to say, "People suck." Cynical, I know, but I'm frequently disappointed to realize how often it proves true. And yes, 'Worst Western' is now right up there with 'Cindy.'

toni--thanks for trying so hard. But good for you for having a great day!

e-dub--yup! But don't you sometimes just want to throw yourself down on the floor when no one is watching and throw yourself a good old hissy fit? I wonder if in this pent-up society just letting go once in awhile wouldn't do a body some good?

Oh, and it didn't take me too long to find a number III: The woman who sat behind me last night during the elementary/jr. high/ high school band concert and listened to the BYU basketball game on her AM radio. She had headphones in but the volume was up so loud I could've given you a play-by-play along with the score. Puh-leez!

Right now I am mad at my neighbor. The other day my 2-year-old was playing in our backyard and I hear her scream bloody murder so I run outside just to find my neighbor's son, who's 6, holding her with a toy gun pointed to her head! I was so mad, not just because it was so disturbing and I am forever trying to keep that kind of violent play away from my kids and house, but that his father was outside and could see the whole thing through the chainlink fence and did NOTHING! I yelled at that kid and sent him crying home and then I got a phone call from his mom. She pretty much thought I was over-reacting and is now mad at me for yelling at her child. Sometimes I really hate where I live!

P.S.
I was at that concert too. I thought I heard something! The only thing worse than that was my younger children! I was pretty upset with them too last night. I was the annoying mother who kept walking in and out with her children. You'd think they'd never been to a concert before! I'm sorry! I really wanted to be in there though because it's not often I get to see both my boys playing at the same time in a concert. After I got home, I realized I just should have sat in the back. I hope we weren't too distracting!

If you are sending letters to the American public, that's gonna cost you A LOT of money. I'm just warning you before you go to the post office.
Your stay sounds horrible.

Carina said...

Cari--I would have been LIVID! Don't let anyone tell you your reaction wasn't completely justified.

Underwire bras always raise my ire. Especially when all my comfortable stretchy bras are in the wash and I'm forced to be poked and prodded all day by pointy wire.

We stayed at a 'resort' hotel once that was so filthy that we had to wear our shoes all the time because the filthy carpet kept staining our socks. They also had bed bugs. My mom would say, "Good night, don't let the bed bugs bite," each night of our stay. Funny.

compulsive- no this is not an announcement. but you would think i am pregnant with the way i always crave ice cream or sweets!
