Letters and Prayers
"Please bless the food that it will be good. And please bless the food that it will not be bad."--My six-year-old over Sunday dinner...which is as good as it gets around my house...and has never been known to be that bad.
"Please bless me to not mess up my kids more than they--or I--can bear."--Me. Every day. Because I am not perfect for this job. But I'm all they got.

My four year old likes to pray for each person individually. Instead of "Please bless all of us to sleep well", he rambles of each family member name, sometimes twice. One of my favorites is lunch/right before nap time...
"Please bless A--- to have a good nap, Mommy to stay awake, daddy can stay awake too and I can stay awake and not take a nap" (even though we want him to take a nap).
Kids are great. Your sentiments from a parental point of view echoes those of many others, including myself.
"Bless the food that it will taste good and not make us die." (From the mouth of son number one.) Is my cooking THAT bad???
I remember when I was a teenager and at some campout with other girls I spontaneously uttered through uncontrolled giggles, "Bless the hands that burnt the buns."
Funny how specific kids get; like with the entire name of their enemy in a prayer.
Amen to that, mom.
Me too.
