Urgent, Important and most of all Relevant Reader Poll
The other day at work an urgent and highly contestable question occupied our minds for most of the day. Passion was palpable. Tempers flared. In fact, I would say that some individuals became quite animated over the debate.
Based on the answers of the boys in comparison to the responses of the girls, I began to formulate an interesting theory or two. But additional scientific research is needed. And, dear blog friends, I need votes from more than just the female sector and my handful (on a good day) of male readers. So query your husbands. Your boyfriends. The dishwasher repairman, too.
And tell me...
"Who's your favorite Disney Princess?"
(If you're so inclined, you can tell me why, too. Your reason may (or may not) help support my theory.)

My Papi and I just got into a debate over who he should choose. He went with Cinderella because she worked hard, had faith, and persevered. Papi didn't take into account the Fairy Godmother mojo she had working for her though. I thought he should have chosen Pocohontas because she's brown like him, Indian like his heritage, and sort of represents his culture.
You've caused a big rift in the Infidel house, compulsive!
Thanks for the vote! Now I have 2- you and me!
EWL--I'm sorry for creating such a rift. But won't that be fun for you when you have to make up???
Chup- Jasmin ("she's hot")
Jasmine-bellybutton
Pocahantus-off the shoulder frock and a whole lotta thigh
Sleeping Beauty-off the shoulder
Belle-Cleavage
Sorry it took me 3 comments to get it all said.
If there were a princess on Emperor's New Groove I'd vote for that one.
Tinkerbell is on my checks.
My husband votes "Cinderella because she's the one who's most modest." (Keep in mind that with all the li'l girls in our home wanting to emulate the princesses, modesty is a huge factor.)
But keep them coming. As before, I had no idea this could be such a fascinating study of humanity!
Shazzy's vote: Snow White, because she was the original, and the best drawn.
Can't wait to see the results!!
Although in reality she isn't a princess until the END of the movie.
Purely in the humanoid category, though, I think my vote goes to Jasmine. Cunning, hot and exotic... plus she makes out with Jafar, my all-time favorite disney character as a kid.
Otherwise, maybe Belle.
Real character: Mia Thermopolis
My Hubby: Jasmine.
~rolls eyes~
My dad says Snow White (he was the only male I could find right now)
My pick: Perdita the Dalmation
Hubby: Jasmine because of the dark skin and sultry eyes, that just spells s-e-x.
You should have seen his face light up when he was describing WHY it was Jasmine
If not,Belle. Because she can read, rolls her eyes at gaston, she looks past the ugly in the beast, she's a nurse...(the wolves in the woods),
Azucar: I have a funny question for you.
Other Half: Ok...
Az: Not that you could even name them, but, could you tell me your favorite Disney Princess
OH: Let's see, there's Belle, Sleeping Beauty, Mulan, Jasmine, Snow White, Pocahontas...
Az--interrupting: HOW on EARTH do you KNOW that?
OH: Student Teacher Supervisor has an F@#$ing poster in her [high school] classroom with all of them.
AZ: I totally forgot about that. That's so stupid. Which one do you like the most?
OH: I'd screw Pocahontas.
AZ: Why? Because she was 12?
OH: Exactly and that would be so wrong. Stupid #@$%@# princesses.
Then we both laughed evilly, because we understand each other like that.
As for me: There is a reason I have all boys so far, I can't like a.) Disney b.) The Princesses. So my not fun, but totally true answer, is none of those objectified pieces of post-feminist trash because they make me want to gouge out the eyes of the marketing department that tries to sell faux-femininity to my sisters. They make me angry. En serio.
Don't worry, I haven't indoctrinated the Jooj yet.
That is a hotty hot-bed going here. But I feel you're on to something. When you publish this theory, don't be surprised if it's said that you resolved the age-old conflict between men and women so that now understanding abounds. I'm being clever, yet perfectly serious.
I know nothing about men and work with all women. But my favorite princess is Belle because she reads, dreams of grander things, and can lift a 1-ton Beast like he was an iddy-biddy little feather!
I don't quite know how to take that.
Then he said Mulan, because she was "Mulan: Ass-Kicking Princess."
Well, I would have to say: none of those objectified pieces of post-feminist trash because they make me want to gouge out the eyes of the marketing department that tries to sell faux-femininity to my sisters. They make me angry.
But since that has already been said. I choose Belle: French, brunette, nice, smart, cleavage - everything I've wanted to be or have. I forgive the ugly yellow dress.(And I've never met a worthy priesthood holder who didn't appreciate a little cleavage)
I didn't have time to ask any of the men in my life who they like princess-wise...I'm too busy trying to please them with my faux-femininity so they will take care of me.
Thanks all for your comments. (Feel free to keep them coming.)
Stay tuned for the results!
Answers:
2 -year old boy- Snow White. When I asked him why he said "because that's my favorite color."
4 year old girl- Belle. "Because she looks like me. She's beautiful."
Me- Cinderella. I like her attitude. She is kind and patient and there's no rebellion. I think her story sends a good lesson to our children.
Hubby- Belle. He liked the different feel of the animation when it came out....so he' just stuck with that. And she looks like my daughter.
I have no idea what Phil's favorite is, but I know exactly what look he'll give me when I ask.
If I had to vote for favorite comments though -Azucar wins. Hands down. Can't wait to hear your theory.
Belle - I was shocked because this is the man who thinks blonde is best.
and
Ariel - He said that he goes for redheads.
"hmmmm, uhhh, lets see...favorite princess? You mean the one I relate to the most?"
And THAT ladies and gentlemen is why I love him. He is quarter girl. He wants to RELATE to the princess... cute.
I like MADDY...she is the newest one for the movie the Frog Prince and is the first BLACK princess. I love that my daughter will have one that looks like her.. the movie will be out in 2007. :-)
I think that on one level I can realte to what Carina and Jen say, but on the other hand, they make my kids happy and when my daughter pretends she is a princess, that usually means being gracefull, kind, using good manners and being nice to her brother. There is nothing wrong with that. I love seeing them see the "magic" in it all.
I like Snow White's clothes better, but liked Ariels spunkiness. BTW...speaking of passion of arguement, many in the black community boycott Snow White and won't let their little girls dress up like her.... oh, the drama, on all levels......
My pick is Belle for all of the same reasons she has been mentioned before.
Brunette
Literate
Kind but stands up for herself
Hated Gaston
I think she had the most beautiful singing voice of all the princesses.
Azucar you are F*@$#&*G hilarious.
Before Mulan came out - it would've been Belle - although she ended up with a fruity looking prince. I loved the library he gave her though.
So Mulan - because it's of her devotion to family and her strength of character (she can take of herself)- PLUS...she's REAL not a pretend princess. She's a hero in Chinese history...and you couldn't get more patriarchal than back then. I swear that's why I wasn't born in those days...
My favorite is Aurora the Sleeping Beauty. Maybe it's only because I like her name and she gets to catch up on a lifetime of sleep. That is enviable, indeed.
Keep 'em coming!
15-year-old son said, "Jasmine, because she tried to save herself."
Husband wisely said, "None."
